This is a lil section of how Lil Miss Sparkle Pants came to be.
Once upon a time my grandma came home to her lil goth granddaughter with a fab lil book with instructions on how to make beaded jewellery and a collection of beads to make it with. This started my obsession with beads, however, i have always been interested in alternative fashion and grew up always being that little bit different.
I started out being a goth who loved her black black black, you couldnt have gotten me out of my black clothes, but my face has always been a different story. I love bright coloured make up and have even gone as far as using liquid eyeliner to draw lil swirly patterns all over, sticking stars and glitter there too! I used to call myself a glitter goth.
Once i went to college to Art & Design a whole new world of unusualness arrived, i realised there was so much more to alternative than just goth. I met electro punk people, glamour puss's and so many more ideas which then gave me a love of bright coloured hair, a love of fashion, corsetry and fab fabrics. After a year of fashion i went to Uni to do a fashion degree but coudn't get over the strictness you had to design to, if the tutors didnt like it, you got bad marks so i decided that Uni wasn't for me so i went to the pub one day, met a guy who owned a tattooist, i quite cheekily asked him if i could work for him and he said yes!
This opened up a whole new world of wierdness and fanstastic people all striving to be that lil bit different. Tattoo magazines are a fab way of finding new and unusual things to be inspired by. I am an ardent lover of piercings and tattoos and have aquired over the years quite a lot!
I started creating collars of kitsch furry fabrics using safety pins as detailing as i hadn't found the internet and scoured the local markets for wierd and wonderful things to use in my new jewellery making mission, i also started fiddling with the lil tiny seed beads you can find in many places, using my sewing skills i started creating collars out of these beads and realised that the new stuff was a bit more 'weddingy'.
With this idea of 'weddings' i started going off on a more glamorous strain which has found me absolutley fantastic clients who i've been able to let my 'grown up' imagination run wild with, i'm still creating fabulous wedding jewellery, especially when i found Swarovski crystals.
The more kitsch, emo, rockabilly things were still there lurking in the background and when i woke up one day and thought 'oh my god, im a grown up!' (i'd turned a bit more rockabilly than i realised though, not grown up lol!)I realised i'd lost my roots and immediately went to thinking about ways i could 'funk myself up' again.
Out came the bleach, the bright hair dyes, the cherry hair bows and the sewing machine! And now what you see as Lil Miss Sparkle Pants is my life long love of something that lil bit different!
