There was a table set out under a tree in front of the house, and the March Hare and the Hatter were having tea at it: a Dormouse was sitting between them, fast asleep, and the other two were using it as a cushion, resting their elbows on it, and talking over its head. `Very uncomfortable for the Dormouse,' thought Alice; `only, as it's asleep, I suppose it doesn't mind.'
The table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner of it: `No room! No room!' they cried out when they saw Alice coming. `There's plenty of room!' said Alice indignantly, and she sat down in a large arm-chair at one end of the table.
A fabulously Kitch necklace with a picture taken from the original book of Alice in wonderland showing the Mad Hatter Tea Party. The cameo is 3.5cm wide by 2.5cm high set into a gold plated vintage setting on an 18" gold plated chain.
It was all very well to say "Drink me," but the wise little Alice was not going to do that in a hurry: "no, I`ll look first," she said "and see whether it`s marked `poison` or not": for she had read several nice little stories about children who had got burnt, and eaten up by wild beasts, and other unpleasant things, all because they would not remember the simple rules their friends had taught them, such as, that a red-hot poker will burn you if you hold it too long; and that if you cut your finger very deeply with a knife, it usually bleeds; and she had never forgotten that, if you drink much from a bottle marked "poison," it is almost certain to disagree with you, sooner or later.
However, this bottle was not marked "poison," so Alice ventured to taste it, and finding it very nice, (it had, in fact, a sort of mixed flavour of cherry-tart, custard, pine-apple, roast turkey, toffee, and hot buttered toast,) she very soon finished it off.
"What a curious feeling!" said Alice, "I must be shutting up like a telescope."
The glass bottle measures 3.5cm by 1.5cm with 'drink me' inside and is on a 16" silver plated chain.
